On a Quiet Sunday Morning in November, 2018
(A Personal Observation on the Way Things Are These Days)
Are we, we being humanity, predestined to fail, to destroy ourselves in any way we can think up? We destroy the land and pollute our air and water - All for the sake of progress, we pave over lush green fields and destroy forests and wetlands for apartment buildings and strip malls and huge shopping centers, and when the people stop coming (and they will), what will be left except eyesores of concrete and rusting steel. I see it here where I live every day, places like Century III Mall where a vast stretch of land is now abandoned, cracked concrete overgrown with weeds and littered with trash! Abandoned homes and buildings fill neighborhood streets throughout the city, with a mingling of empty, garbage filled vacant lots. And while we sit and watch ourselves destroy nature and create these monstrosities, we listen on our televisions and radios and read on our computers about boil water advisories and air quality reports because it’s all filled with germs and bacteria and other poisons which somewhere down the road, we helped to create either through science or the mismanagement and manipulation of the eco-system we call home! And what about the air we breathe? What will it take for us to stop poisoning it, to cease adding poisonous chemicals and more carbon dioxide and other gases?
The Earth can heal itself, if we would just stop! If we could just stop with all of the destruction we do to the environment! But how would you survive without your gas guzzling cars and kilowatts of electric and chemically made products which poisons flow into the water as run off? How would without the factories belching out tons of harmful air every single day?! Our ancestors did and they did so pretty well without the crap we've become used to having in our lives! We caused the problem, we should be able to fix it! But it’s difficult you know because it’s all about greed and politics and More! Everybody wants M-O-R-E! Everybody has to have more because the more you have, the better things are in life!
But all of that is merely the beginning of mankind’s own destruction! If that is not enough, if that is too slow of a means to destroy ourselves, then let us haves wars and build bigger and more terrifying ways to kill, not only others but ourselves as well! Wars come from hate and hate comes from envy and greed and intolerance of our brother man, it comes from that desire to have more, give me more and if you won’t give it to me then I’ll take what I want and fight you for it! It’s about wanting to be the top of the food chain, the Big Kahuna, King of the Hill and if I can be that, then I am King of the World! Maybe if we were to abolish borders and do away with putting certain values upon everything - Maybe if we would just become a little more loving and tolerant of one another... God, oh my God please look down upon us with pity!
And if war is not quick enough, let’s go out and do it ourselves! Seriously people, what goes through the mind of someone who is so filled with hate and rage for someone that they must go out and take the lives of the innocent? What are they so afraid of that they must go out and murder their imaginary enemies? And then in the end, why do most show how much of a coward they are by taking their own life?! There are some of course who don’t take their own life, no doubt delusional in believing that either when people hear their vision of the truth, that the whole of humanity will rise up and thus he or she will be vindicated, or they plan to use their trial as a means to get their word out! And for those who commit suicide, perhaps they think of killing themselves as perhaps a means to become a martyr to their cause and others will follow. And truthfully, I’m sorry to say that there will be others who will follow in their footsteps, but not in the way that they think. It is a sorry day indeed, when the patients are in control of the asylum and the sane must flee for their lives! Has the entire human race gone insane?! Before this is over, I have no doubt that in the not so distant future, the planet will be once more lush and green, the air and water pure and fresh, but we will not be around to see that day, no. The majority of humanity will have either killed, been killed or have taken their own lives and become almost extinct. I say almost, because I think that there will be a few of mankind left, a few with the common sense to step aside and let things go as they are headed - being a part of this world as God and nature intended; balanced and together as a part of the natural order. At peace with all life.
